I have often felt very welcome at the homes of owners of a place where we have holidayed but I have never actually felt part of the household. We were welcomed so warmly, the setting is beautiful and the rooms a perfect balance between comfort and connection with the surrounding landscape. Utterly wonderful and the gym facilities are excellent!
Kookaburras, parrots and scores of cicadas announce our arrival at Ignite Life Wellness Lodge. Our hosts, Neil and Vonnie, greet us at the entrance to their garden. We bump our suitcases along the wooden deck, around the man-made pond and up into our rustic cabin. Along the way, we are introduced to the resident kangaroo, Malcolm. Abandoned as a baby, he was rescued by this compassionate couple, and this adolescent Eastern Grey now enjoys a life lounging in his bed on the back deck, eating oats and almonds, and learning to put up with the inevitable onslaught of photos taken by admiring visitors from far-flung places such as Canada and Switzerland, where kangaroos live behind bars in zoos. This is not your average B&B. If you are looking for concrete, straight lines, air conditioning and a chlorine-treated pool, this is not the place for you. If, however, you are seeking solace from the city, a place where you can commune with nature, surrounded by lush leafy plants and cooled by gentle afternoon breezes, then this provides a piece of paradise. It is a place to sit and reflect. A place to wander and explore. A place to reconnect with yourself and others. A place to encounter wildlife from a handful of wild roos who show up at the front door each morning looking for food, to the carpet python who leads a quiet life under the back deck (particularly once its fed on a nearby chicken), to the mama possum who arrives at night, with baby on her back, looking for food and company.Speaking of food, not only the animals are well fed here. Vonnie is a terrific cook and serves a variety of delicious, healthy breakfasts, including eggs (omelettes, poached on toast, scrambled) and bacon, or yogurt with fresh fruit and muesli, along with cappuccinos or fresh black coffee. If you are too tired to make the half hour drive into Noosa for dinner, you can also arrange to stay for dinner. On different nights, we enjoyed Tasmanian salmon, coconut chicken & vegetable stir fry and two different camp ovens roast chicken and lamb, along with potatoes, carrots, and onions, slow cooked over coals in the fire pit at the back of the property. Vonnie and Neil are consummate hosts. They are attentive to your needs, but also happy to have you sit in silence. Depending upon who else is booked in for the night, you can choose to share tales with fellow travellers (often couples or 20-something friends travelling together) or opt to retire early, and be lulled to sleep by the night song of crickets and frogs, accented by the brush of palm fronds on the roof. And, of course, the thump thump thump of Malcolm as he hops off into the bush to spend the evening in the company of fellow kangaroos.
What an amazing stay! I went with no expectations and came back with an experience that is hard to beat. If you want something that is a little bit more than just a bed for a night - where you are treated like family and welcomed as if it was your home make sure you book here. An extensive property and a beautiful couple that will help you connect with the real you. I hope I do come back very soon !
We arrived at Ignite Life Lodge as strangers to Neil and Vonnie but were welcomed on arrival as friends. The atmosphere of the property is relaxed and at one with nature and the accomodation so homely and inviting. Vonnie's cooking is amazing- healthy, hearty and full of flavour. We have taken so much more away from our stay than we have at any other B&B. We look forward to our next stay. Thank you for having us!
It was a fantastic romantic get-away with a few lovely surprises like feeding a Juvenal kangaroo and cuddles with the cheeky possum named peanut. Vonnie was the perfect host who was there when needed and open for a chat then left us to our own thing for quite, secluded time. Really great B&B for those who want to get back to nature and enjoy a stay which is a little quirky and beautiful at the same time.
